Respect for history permeates the entire project. The idea is to restore the historic parts of the Sture District that have been altered over the years. However, it is just as important to create the conditions for future businesses.

“We’re building buildings that will stand for a hundred years, and the types of businesses will change during that time. What will the companies of the future look like, and what will tomorrow’s entrepreneurs want? We’re planning for that,” says Charlotta Rosén, project manager for the Sturekvarteret.

The innovation hub Changers Hub Sture at Grev Turegatan 7 is one such initiative. In addition to offering coworking space, they organize lectures, courses, and business coaching for young people. The goal? To give everyone the same opportunities to bring their ideas to life. They’ve been in the Sturekvarteret neighborhood for nearly a year—their second location in addition to their headquarters in Alby, outside Stockholm.

“Our goal is to build bridges between the inner city and the suburbs. We started the office in Alby to offer something we ourselves lacked when we were growing up. The office here in the city is about the same thing—opening up the inner city and its opportunities to young people who otherwise wouldn’t have found their way here,” says Siduri Poli, founder of Changers Hub.

Over the past year, Siduri Poli has seen just how great the demand actually is for a place like this and how significant the impact can be when you bring the city together. This idea goes hand in hand with the vision of opening up the Sturekvarteret neighborhood.

“The collaboration with Changers Hub has been—and continues to be—an incredible source of knowledge for those of us working in urban planning. Developing the city together, with dedication and over time, is much more sustainable, and I definitely believe this is how we’ll build the sustainable city of the future,” says Charlotta Rosén.
